Lazy intestine, in addition to constipation, can cause bloating and pain when defecating. It is an alteration in peristalsis that, usually, is not of a serious cause.

Lazy intestine is the expression that refers to those people who tend to make slow digestions and who usually suffer constipation. That is to say that it manifests with an alteration of the intestinal transit, slower than normal, which implies that the stool is harder and costs to defecate.

Actually, lazy intestine is a symptom that can have multiple causes. For example, it is related to a sedentary lifestyle and an inadequate diet poor in fibre. It may even be due to some intestinal pathology. This makes it quite prevalent.

The fact of not being able to belly properly can cause health and well-being problems. Therefore, in this article, we explain everything you need to know about the lazy intestine and how to solve it.

Lazy IntestineWhat is lazy intestine?

As we have already mentioned, the lazy intestine is that the muscles of this organ move more slowly and weakly than normal. This makes the transit of feces very slow, making them more consistent and harder.

When this occurs, it is logical that there is constipation. The person who suffers it cannot go belly and, in doing so, it is painful. Even injuries to the anus or rectum can be caused. In addition, lazy intestine is accompanied by bloating and gas.

In some cases, hemorrhoids can occur, due to the effort made to try to defecate. In fact, it is common for these people to have a feeling of satiety and even bad morning breath from intestinal gas. The lazy intestine carries constipation states, where it is difficult to evacuate normally

What causes lazy intestine?

Most of the time this situation is caused by causes that are not pathological, such as age. It often happens more in older people than in young people. This influences, in turn, sedentary lifestyle. It is one of the most important risk factors for developing lazy intestine. The exercise causes our whole body to be activated and that, by the movement itself, our intestines get underway.

On the other hand, food is also a great determinant. Having a diet low in fibre and liquids greatly increases the chances of suffering from this condition.

Importantly, certain medications are associated with this problem, in the form of an adverse effect. Especially the use of laxatives for some time. Laxatives stimulate the intestine, so if they are consumed for long-time peristalsis gets used, generating the opposite effect.

Although less frequent, the lazy intestine can also be a symptom of a metabolic disease or a nerve injury. It occurs when one of the nerves responsible for stimulating the movement of this organ is affected, such as after an injury to the spinal cord.

What can be done to fix it?

The first thing to do when faced with a health problem such as lazy intestine is to consult a doctor. Surely, I recommend certain changes in your diet or lifestyle that help you to solve the disorder naturally.

First, it is important to introduce more fibre-rich foods in the diet, such as fruits and vegetables. In addition, it is recommended to reduce the consumption of dairy and processed foods. It is also important to drink enough water, between 1.5 and 2 litres a day.

Along with the diet, you should add more physical exercise in the daily routine. Only by walking one hour a day can you notice an improvement. Some experts recommend changing the posture when going to the bathroom, to facilitate stool evacuation. For example, try to squat.

In the event that, even so, you need laxatives, the ideal is to use natural laxatives. Green tea or certain fruits such as kiwi can help. Enemas are also a timely solution but should be used on medical advice.

Although the lazy intestine usually has a physiological cause and can be treated with small modifications such as those we suggest, if the effect is not achieved it is best to consult with the doctor. The relevant tests will be performed and it will be determined if the cause is more serious.
