  1. Children below the age of 3

You can use some floating toys to get your child excited about entering the pool. At this point your child should learn about the technique of gripping the side of the pool and also to get out of the water all on his own.

  1. Children falling in the age group of 3 to 7

This age is the best to learn any new skill as the brain is quite receptive in this age group. Most of the children do not fear water in this age and are ready to try new things very keenly. You should tell your child about the importance of swimming and should also inform him about different things, such as pool parties and water park activities that he will miss out if he does not learn swimming.


This is the appropriate age to make your child learn things like bubble blowing and exhaling deep in water. You must also get your child familiar with kicking, rolling over water, floating as well as pulling with the arms. All these things are fairly simple to learn and your child can easily understand the technique behind them without much effort.

  1. 8 years old and plus

Till reaching this age, your child must have acquired the needed confidence to swim comfortably. At this point, you should make sure that your child is able to swim properly without any help or assistance.


As the basic techniques get practiced at an early age, this age presents a great opportunity to learn skills like head positioning, bobbing, water rescue as well as treading water. Your child should also pick up the technique of rhythmic breathing and should be able to breathe under water without any discomfort or choking.
