The problem of having a toxic job is that, beyond affecting you at the work level, it can have consequences in your personal life and be a major inconvenience.

Are you feeling too stressed at your job? Can’t you concentrate or do you feel that you don’t have so much creativity? There are many factors that can influence this. However, most of the time it is the result of staying in a bad work environment, generating toxic work accordingly.

The most worrying thing is that many fail to identify the problem and attribute the bad times to a personal failure. However, often an environment in which negative emotions abound, where there is no good communication and coexistence is tense, undoubtedly affects the mental health of employees.

In fact, these situations lower performance, lead to frustration and can lead to both individual and collective failure. For this reason, today we have collected 9 signals that help you know if you are really in a toxic job. Identify them!

  1. The boss has a bad attitude

A boss who addresses the rest of the employees with cynicism and sarcasm significantly affects the work environment.

This person cannot make constructive criticism, issues derogatory comments and does not have the ability to incentivize teamwork.

  1. There is bad communication

Communication is the basis of all social relations. That’s why, when it is not properly established in the workplace, it is difficult for both employees and superiors to comply.

It is common, for example, to silence certain information assuming that the other person should already know it.

  1. They steal your work credit

If a job is collective, everyone should receive recognition for it. There is nothing more frustrating than feeling that another person takes credit for an effort that does not belong to him.

The situation could be much more serious if someone receives, for example, a raise or raise for something that you helped them do or that is entirely up to you.

  1. There is no possibility of ascending

All employees wish to obtain recognition and self-fulfillment, regardless of their position in the company.

When there is no chance of growing, ascending or being better in a few years, it is difficult to feel conformity and happiness.

  1. If superiors highlight your mistakes

Many employees lose their creativity and excellence because their superiors highlight the mistakes, they make more than the achievements they have.

Low morale is one of the worst enemies of good productivity and can turn the good employee into someone mediocre and compliant.

  1. There is no equal rights

Is anyone the boss’s “favorite”? Do some suffer the worst consequences of their mistakes, while others are overlooked? Lack of equal rights creates conflicting and tense environment in the workplace.

It is important that everyone receives the same treatment, at least, in terms of regulation.

  1. Work overload

It is normal for sometimes to present a little more work than usual. Which work is considered as toxic is that too many responsibilities or tasks are added without the consent of the employees.

In many companies, bosses force them to stay longer than stipulated and, in many cases, they do not even recognize these “extras” economically.

  1. The boss is ineffective or absent

A boss is a leading person who must accompany much of the work performed by his employees. Although, like everyone else, you can be absent for greater reasons, ideally supervise that everything goes well.

If this person is absent continuously, is ineffective and does not have the capacity to solve the problems that arise in the company, serious problems can occur in their workplace environment.

  1. There is no good conflict management

Mismanagement of conflicts ranges from superiors to subordinates. When there is a habit of blaming others instead of looking for solutions, a tense climate occurs that hinders the relationship between colleagues.

If nobody assumes the responsibilities that correspond to them and there is always a guilty alien to mistakes, it is impossible to keep the environment in harmony.

Did you just realize that you have a toxic job?

If you have identified one or more signs, you will need to reconsider your work in future, so as not to have to expose yourself to its consequences. Stay open to other offers, or, if you have the opportunity, try to make proposals to improve the environment between partners.
