A special 'Army Inspired Tasting Menu' to support local veterans.

Join three generations of the McCaig family at The Holt for a very special charity dinner on Wednesday October 20th complete with wartime tales from a very special Guest Chef.

Taking inspiration from Army cuisine, Angus McCaig will be serving up an unforgettable 5 course themed Tasting Menu reinventing the components from a soldier's typical ration pack and Officer's food from the era.

A share of the evenings proceeds will be donated to 'The Baton' a local charity established last year by Honiton Barber and ex-serviceman Alan Rowe to help support the UK's armed forces veterans as they integrate back into society.

As well as hearing about the charitys work from Alan, diners will also be treated to stories from the special Guest Chef for the evening - Mary Mead (Gus & Joe's Gran), who now a spritely 94 years of age, spent World War II stationed in Dorchester ensuring the Officers were well fed each day.

Mary will also be joined by Mary Ann - her daughter and the co-founder of the nearby Otter Brewery so expect plenty of very amusing tales from this unique double act!

Celebration of Beef at The River Grille

The West Country is famous for its drive for local, fresh produce and none more so than at The River Grille, Bristol's iconic restaurant overlooking the historic harbourside. Light and airy in space with a superb lounge to enjoy cocktails and listen to live jazz at the weekends. A place to watch the world go by.

Leading the River Grille team is Executive Chef Wayne Third, who took over in March of this year, adding a new dimension, and culinary vision to the heart of Bristol. Continuing our goal of searching for the finest in West Country ingredients simply prepared and served with a friendliness that is true to Bristol.

Last years festival drew an overwhelming response from locals and visitors alike; hence Celebration of Beef 2010. Sourced from local farms, we have put together a selection of prime cuts that will certainly whet your appetite.

Limousin
'It is widely acknowledged that Limousin cattle in the South West are equal to others anywhere else in the country. Many are descended from famous bloodlines with both British and French origins. They are concentrated in Devon and Somerset, with a rising population in Cornwall and a few herds in Wiltshire and Dorset.

'The Red Ruby Devon is a tremendously popular breed of beef cow. Prized for its good temperament, and its marbled, succulent beef.'

Hereford
'Herefords produce an excellent 'marbled' beef that is in great demand both within the UK and for export due to its distinctive flavour and renowned eating quality.'
