In half term week, Darts Farm Food Club will be hosting a Children’s Gourmet Dinner in the October half term.

This wonderful little dinner party will be an experience to remember where the children will see, feel, smell and learn all about the produce used in their dinner before sharing a two course meal that last year saw them eating and enjoying food that you’d never have imagined.

An opportunity to meet the producers and purchase some of the best of Exmoor produce. There will be activities for children and an Exmoor Cake Competition.

Award-winning Polgoon Vineyard, based in Penzance will be holding an open day on Saturday 24 October as part of the Celebration of Food month.

The tours will take place on the hour and will visit the 14 acre vineyard and 4 acre orchards as well as visiting the winery where the wine making and bottling process takes place. Including a look at the "methode traditionelle" which is used to produce its new sparkling Aval Rose and Aval Original, and no vineyard tour would be complete without a tasting of the finished product!

Hourly tours will start at 11am through to 3pm.

Numbers are limited to each tour, so booking is advisable.

Entry is free with any charitable donations going to the RNLI, a charity Polgoon is passionate about and one it has been supporting for several years.

A walk, talk and fantastic cream tea in the Watersmeet Valley. During your walk, the area warden, Julian Gurney, will tell you about the nature, history and conservation of this special place, followed by a delicious Watersmeet Cream Tea with locally sourced clotted cream and whortleberry jam.
Stout footwear and suitable clothing for the 1 hour 30 min walk which covers rough, uneven terrain. Dogs welcome on leads.

Combine a nostalgic journey on a steam train with High Tea at the new Turntable Cafe using locally sourced tea and coffee from DJ Miles of Porlock, delicious homemade scones with local clotted cream and dainty cucumber sandwiches.

There will be tastings for all the family to enjoy and you can meet the people behind the produce before buying. Sampsons Farm Apple Extravaganza and Country Life Art Exhibition

Inspired by the splendidly equipped and authentic below-stairs kitchen at No 1 Royal Crescent, Bath (a magnificently restored Georgian town house at the entrance to Bath's iconic crescent administered by Bath Preservation Trust)this competition invites adults to create a modern version of Mrs Elizabeth Raffald's Rich Seed Cake of 1769.

Judging will be be cookery writer Mary Berry; Head Chef at the Royal Crescent Hotel, Gordon Jones; and food historian, Jean Seymour.

Generous prizes have been donated by The Royal Crescent Hotel and Kitchens of Bath & Bristol. There is also a children's competition to bake gingerbread.

Join us for an informal Cheese & Wine evening with local cheesemaker Todd Trethowan introducing a platter of six handmade British cheeses accompanied by six wines specially selected by host Marty Grant.

The Gaymer Cider Company invites Food Magazine readers the opportunity to experience a unique tour of its cider mill.

The visit will begin at 2.00pm in the Cider House with refreshments and an introductory talk. Visitors will then be taken on a site tour, where they will see the apple processing, production and bottling facilities, before afternoon tea in the Cider House and a tasting of the end product.

Cornish octopus is celebrated at Provedore in Falmouth.

Local octopus-"pulpo" in Spanish is much loved at Provedore and is on the lunch menu over October.
